Lisa has been in love with dance ever since she can remember. Growing up in Dayton, Ohio, she was fortunate to study under exceptional teachers such as Bess Saylor, Jon Rodriguez, and Josephine Schwartz, who was a true pioneer in the world of regional dance companies. Her time with the Dayton Ballet provided a rich foundation in dance education, both ballet and modern, performance and insight into the workings of a dance company. She then spent four and a half years at the University of Georgia dancing both off campus and with the dance department. Lisa taught classes at several studios, performed with a small touring group and was selected as a soloist with the concert performance group at the university. The vibrant art scene in Athens also provided her with her first opportunity to choreograph in a collaborative setting.
It was not long after moving to Nashville that Lisa was dancing, performing and teaching in her new community. She developed programs for young dancers at Woodmont Christian PreSchool, Overbrook and Project Reflect along with teaching for Metro Parks and Artsmart. Lisa was on faculty at Nashville Ballet for more than 15 years. Since 2012, Lisa has been a certified Pilates instructor with private clients and classes at Nashville Ballet, Willow Pilates Studio, and Vanderbilt University.
In 1994, Lisa auditioned for a performance opportunity that grew into Epiphany Dance Company. She has performed with the company at the Grand Ole Opry, TPAC, in music videos and on national television. Now as the Artistic Director, Lisa teaches company class, choreographs and works closely with collaborators to create meaningful experiences for the audience and the performers. She has worked with many talented artists here in Nashville such as Paul Vasterling, Sonje Mayo, JenJen Lin, Deb Belue and Grete Gryzwana. The fellow dancers that have become like an extended family are too many to name individually. Lisa has created more than 30 original works for Epiphany and hopes to continue creating for and with dancers for many years to come.
