Launched in 1994 by Grete Gryzwana, The Epiphany Dance Company, has fostered decades of spiritual inspiration and reflection through dance and music, poetry, prose, scripture and art.

Epiphany’s wide performance history has been varied and eclectic, from the company’s concert performances to the Nashville Symphony Christmas Concerts with Kennedy Center Honors Recipient, Amy Grant, to seventeen years of original choreographies for Nashville’s Christ Church Cathedral’s “First Fridays” with original compositions from a host of Nashville music artists and poets, to collaborations with Nashville Symphony Orchestra’s “Broadway Pops” as well.  One of Epiphany’s most celebrated creations, performed for 20 years, was the Good Friday service, “Tenebrae,” commissioned by First Presbyterian Church in Nashville, first developed by Grete. In addition, they have been guest artists for Nashville’s Opera Ball,  St. George’s Episcopal Church “Lessons and Carols,” all initiated by the creative energies and choreographic direction of founder, Grete Gryzwana.

Education being a component of the Company’s mission, Epiphany has offered regular dance classes and numerous workshops for the public in Nashville. Belmont University Dance Program Director, and Epiphany Interim Artistic Director Debbie Belue, also created an apprenticeship program for Belmont dancers to train and perform with Epiphany. Belue directed Epiphany performances for the nationally televised “Christmas at Belmont”  concerts for several years and led the Company in its performances for the “Tennessee Association of Dance Galas.” Lisa Valeri led the subsidiary Epiphany Dance Partners from 2014 until 2020, continuing and expanding Epiphany’s traditions.

In 2020 Epiphany restructured, reorganized, and expanded the Board of Directors. The Board again appointed Grete Gryzwana as Executive Artistic Director.  While remaining incorporated as a Tennessee non-profit, the Company will further expand its artistic endeavors through education, collaboration and performance throughout California and Tennessee.
